It Was a Long Day.

And a great one at that. Late Thursday night Kim arrived into London, so we met up with her Friday morning and hit the streets. Our goal for the day was to get a better feel for London and explore different areas, and look into musical tickets for the weekend.

We started out at Leicester Square, which is a fun bustling area with lots of restaurants and most importantly, ticket offices. (Rachel and Mom and Dad may remember this as the place we had our Christmas dinner.) We checked a few ticket places, then had some lunch at a Mexican restaurant, being especially happy to find bottomless Diet Coke rather than just a small bottle. We had a great server who was happy to tell us about all the different musicals and where we could find cheap tickets, so we left the restaurant feeling more confident in our search.Next we moved on to Covent Gardens, which is another fun, outdoor area. All the streets leading up to Covent Gardens are lined with cute stores, so we definitely took our time getting there. Once there we just walked around enjoying the crowds and the fun street performers (who have become experts in the art of getting money from those watching).

Finally we ended the day with Kim and I going to see the musical Blood Brothers, and Hillary and Beth going to a Young Singles Adult dance at our church building. Blood Brothers was pretty good, an interesting story. It's been going on for twenty years, so the music is a little dated, a little overly dramatic, but all in all a fun show. Our server had told us that there was never a dry eye in the theater, so we were kind of waiting for a good cry, and just ended up laughing at the end (does that make us horrible people??), but it was still great. Now it's Saturday morning and we're ready to go explore some flea markets around London, see what fun treasures we can search out.

Oh and PS - I just wanted to add to Hillary's last post that I LOVED the lecture on the Oxford English Dictionary and actually thought that it would be a really fun place to work. It seems great to me to be able to go through the entire dictionary word for word and find where each word comes from and the different meanings that have developed for each word. So yes, I am embracing my nerdiness. Hillary tried to convince me that my family wasn't full of nerds, but I just told her we were good at hiding it.

You're in luck Christine because I just happen to really love nerds.

Perhaps your calling is English and not Accounting? Is it too late to say that? Sounds like you guys are doing a great job of touring and discovering. But do you ever have to go to class and study?

Ah Christmas dinner... such a memory. Glad you found that area again. We are nerds. See the movie The Linguists, I think you'd like it.

Nerds Rule!
When you are finished seeing Rachel's movie you have to read this book:
"The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of The Oxford English Dictionary"

When I read it, I couldn't put it down.
